As a lot of you may already know one of my life passions is reading and learning as much as possible about President and Mrs. Kennedy. It’s been that way my entire life, and I honestly don’t even have a good explanation why. I guess if I really think about it, I’m fascinated by every aspect of the Kennedy presidency and perfect orchestration in which Jacqueline Kennedy made sure it was carried out. I think the promise of what was, and what could have been is something that captivates the majority of Americans and people throughout the world.
I must admit, I’m always very underwhelmed when a new book comes out about the Kennedy administration or Jacqueline Kennedy. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely going to read it, but in the end I find myself just craving new information, not the same 20 facts regurgitated over and over again. It seems anymore it’s the same book with a different cover and author. Well, when I heard that Mrs. Kennedy’s Secret Service Agent Clint Hill was writing a book about his time with her, I knew it wasn’t going to be like every other Kennedy biography I had read, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!
From the first sentence of, “Mrs. Kennedy and Me,” I was captivated. I absolutely loved every minute of reading this book. I can truly say that in all of the books I have read, I don’t feel like any other book has ever painted a more clear picture of Jacqueline Kennedy the person. As the end of the book approached I couldn’t help but want two things: more pages to read, and a different outcome of events on November 22, 1963. I think the other amazing thing about this book is to fully realize the sacrifice and dedication it takes from the Secret Service Agents and their loved ones to make protecting our Presidents and their families possible. It was an incredible book, that lived up to every expectation I had and more……..You see, in the end I’m actually just a huge history nerd!
Lots of Love,
