THE DIRECTOR OF MY MUSIC VIDEO!!!
When I decided I wanted to do a music video to go with my new EP, I had only one person in mind I wanted to work with. Although I was pretty set on having this director create my music video, I decided to do more research. I was spending hours and hours a day watching music videos from absolutely every genre of music. Oh yes…just call me the official music video expert of the past 10 years! You name it, I’ve watched it! I have to be honest, there were definitely some directors I became a huge fan of after watching their videos, but my number one choice for a director remained the same!
Wanting to work with someone, and them wanting to work with you, are two different things. I knew I had to be realistic that there was a distinct possibility that my dream director would not want to take on an up-and-coming artist. After working with some of the biggest stars in the music business, I knew us working together was a long shot, but I also knew that no matter what I had to try. “In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take,” became my instant motto for every aspect of this music video, so I went for it! Believe it or not, the director agreed to a meeting!
Something I haven’t mentioned that is a huge factor in making a great music video, that is also very similar to making great music; you have to have great chemistry with the person leading the way. So needless to say, I was hoping that I loved this director as much in person as I did the amazing work he has created. You can’t create magic with someone you don’t like, and quite frankly, I don’t hide my feelings very well! As you can imagine, I was very anxious to see how we would interact!
When the director and the director’s assistant walked into my manager’s office I stood up, walked up to him, put out my hand and said, “Hi I’m Karli, and it’s so nice to meet you!” He smiled, and said, “Karli it’s so great to finally meet you! I’m Roman and I can’t wait to work with you!” We clicked immediately, and I am very honored to say my music video will be directed by ACM, CMA & CMT Award-Winning director Roman White! Talk about a Dream Come True!
